Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Zinfandel form the foundation of this red blend, providing heady aromatics, dark fruit flavors, a lush mouthfeel, and spicy finishing notes. Petite Sirah represents a small fraction of the blend, yet its firm tannins and balanced acids provide much in the way of the structure of Lucky. Aged primarily in French oak barrels - most neutral - Lucky possesses texture uncommon for wines in its peer group. Lucky Red is made and bottled in Outlier Wine Co.'s winery on Treasure Island.
Lucky was inspired by the rich and robust red blends that I came to know and love when I moved back to California in 2000.
Vinification: Small, open-top fermented lots were aged mostly in neutral French oak.
Tasting Notes: Lucky is powerful with balanced acidity and ripe fruit flavors. The fruit shows a sweet character upon entry that turns dark, spicy, and complex on the finish. This wine is extremely versatile, pairing well with all meat dishes, red sauces, pizza, and pasta.
